TEAM CANADA MEN'S "DREAM TEAM" GARNERS GOLD AT THE WORLDS!!!

At the 3rd WKC World Championships in Cadiz, Spain, Canada once again emerged victorious and brought home the coveted Gold Medal in Men’s Team Fighting.

The long awaited battle between the Canadian team and the powerhouse Team USA coached by Richard Plowden took place on November 5, 2011 in front of an audience just buzzing with anticipation.  The match up was the talk of many social networks (especially Facebook) and many Sport Karate enthusiasts were placing friendly bets as to who would emerge the victor.  For several months now, there were many hints as to who would make up the American team but when it was said and done, Coach Plowden selected a team which consisted of the “who’s who” of Sport Karate.  Names like Ross Levine, Troy Binns, Carlos Tearney, Reggie Perry and the legendary Jadi Tention all fielded the roster and would definitely pose a challenge for the equally strong Canadian Team.

When the smoke cleared after the final round which pitted Canada’s Robbie Lavoie against USA’s Reggie Perry, the Teams wound up being tied.  This resulted in the match going into overtime.  A one minute battle ensued once again between the diminutive Lavoie and the much taller Reggie Perry – a typical David and Goliath duel which Lavoie is very accustomed to.  After a see-saw battle which kept the crowd on their feet the entire time, Lavoie outscored Perry in the overtime round and anchored the team to victory. Once the Gold medals were handed out to the victorious Canadians, the crowd’s sense of Canadian pride was heard through their voices as many of them sang out the National Anthem in a spirit of unity.
